Torre Abbey was built in 1196 and was a monastery before being turned into a private residence for the more prominent citizens of Torquay. The mansion is now a grade 1 listed building and the museum has an art gallery and exhibits that include English glass, sculptures and antiquities. Torre Abbey is closed until mid 2008 due to major restoration work.
