Teignmouth Main Beach (Teignmouth, United Kingdom)

Teignmouth Main Beach starts at the Teign estuary and runs along the Channel shore in front of the main part of the town. The wide beach is a mixture of sand and shingle with a gentle slope which makes it suitable for children. Sand bars offshore are constantly reshaped by the tides. The beach received an Encams Quality Coast award in 2009 for its standard of beach management. Facilities include toilets, parking, disabled access and a children’s play area. In the summer months there is lifeguard cover at weekends and a first aid post. Dogs are banned during the same period. The shops, restaurants, cafés and attractions of the town are nearby and a promenade separates the town from the beach. A beach attraction is the pier, one of England’s Victorian piers, dating from the 1860s. Like so many piers it suffered some destruction by fire but still stands and houses amusements and stalls.
