The 12th century keep towers over the Northern Sea. Its history goes back to a prehistoric settlement, later on it was also used as a Roman signal station. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the site. In the restored Master Gunner’s House you can find interactive displays which explain the history of the castle and the site it is located on, each period of Scarboroughs history is also represented by a collection of artifacts. There is also cafe (closed during the winter months) and a shop on site. For seasonal opening hours and admission fees please visit the website. The long distance walk “The Cleveland Way” passes close to this attraction.
