The North of England Open Air Museum at Beamish stands in 300 acres of countryside in County Durham. Demolished buildings from around the region have been reconstructed and refurbished to recreate the way people lived and worked in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. With cast members in costume the various working areas include The Manor House, The Town, Home Farm and The Colliery Village and between them run trams and trains. Beamish has won both the British Museum of the Year and European Museum of the Year Awards. Opening hours: Summer (April - October) Daily 10am - 5pm Winter (November - March) Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat, Sun 10am - 4pm Tickets: Adult: £16 Senior; Student: £12.50 Child (5-16): £10 All tickets £6 during the Winter season. There is a car park adjacent to the main entrance Wheelchair access is limited in certain areas because of the terrain.
