Situated on the brow of the Gateshead bank of the river between the Tyne Bridge and the new Millenium Bridge stands The Sage Gateshead. Designed by Norman Foster this structure of “shrink-wrapped” steel dominates the Quayside redevlopment. Inside are two auditoria, a rehearsal space and a 25-room Music Education Centre. The site also contains studios, a cafe and brasserie and bars. All types of live music performances are given including popular, jazz, world, classical, dance, brass bands, experimental, folk and traditional. It has become the home of the Northern Symphonia.
