Princes Street (Edinburgh, United Kingdom)

Princes Street in Edinburgh was originally called St. Giles Street but this was changed by George III who renamed it after his sons. It is one of the main streets that run through the centre of Edinburgh and is approximately one mile long. It stretches from Lothian Road in the west to Leith Street in the east. Shops and businesses occupy only one side of the road with the south side remaining clear to give uninterrupted views of Edinburgh Castle and Princes Gardens. Public Transport is given priority and the road it partly closed to cars however all traffic was stopped in 2009 as they are laying the foundations for a tram network in Edinburgh.
