Kendal Castle (Kendal, United Kingdom)

Kendal Castle is located on Castle Hill, a prominent hill overlooking the town of Kendal and offering panoramic views across the area. It dates from the late 12th century and was originally built for the Barons of Kendal. It later became the family home of the Parr family and Katherine Parr, the sixth wife of King Henry V111, lived here before she moved to London. The castle has been a ruin since Tudor times although several parts of its outer walls and keep are still intact. It can be accessed via a footpath from the town. There is no charge to visit Kendal Castle and it is accessible at all times. It has been cared for by Kendal Borough Council since 1897.
