Blackwell - The Arts & Crafts House (Bowness-on-Windermere, United Kingdom)

Overlooking the lake, this house was designed by architect Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott at the turn of the 20th century. The decoration of the house includes eighteenth century firebacks, oak panelling and reproduction Delft wall tiles. It now houses a museum of furniture, fine arts and object d’art representing the Arts and Crafts era. The original bedrooms have been converted into upstairs galleries which host a changing programme of exhibitions of art and ceramics. The curators arrange guided tours and there are quizzes and childrens activities. The site has a tea room and gift shop. Open daily 10:30am - 4pm (mid February, March, November, December) 10:30am - 5pm (April - October) Admission: Adult £5.45 Student, Child: £3 There is limited parking on site. Apart from some of the upper galleries, the house is accessible by wheelchair.
