The Yorkshire Sculpture Park at West Bretton near Wakefield is an award-winning centre for contemporary art with exhibits in four indoor galleries and displays in its 500 acres of parkland. Once a single estate, it was split up and has been brought back together by YSP. The installation of the exhibitions tries to blend the artworks with the vistas of the countryside, while the indoor galleries have been designed to integrate with the landscape. The ecology of the area is also being sensitively managed with planting schemes, drystone walling and the preservation of the flora and fauna. Displays and exhibitions are frequently changed and there is a varied programme of events for all ages. Opening hours are 10am to 6pm and to 5pm for the indoor galleries. There is a restaurant, shop and car park and the Centre is available for private and corporate hire. Entry is free, apart from a car park fee.
