Malham Cove (Malham, United Kingdom)

Malham Cove lies just outside the North Yorkshire village of Malham within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is a natural limestone formation with sheer cliff faces and its bottom is occupied by a stream called Malham Beck, that flows out of the cove. A steep footpath climbs up its western edge and allows visitors to reach the top of the formation 80 metres (260 feet) above. At the top of Malham Cove there is a large flat limestone plateau, which was used for a scene in the Harry Potter film “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1)”. It also featured in the BBC TV series “ Seven Natural Wonders” The Cove was created during the last ice age but today is a popular tourist destination for walkers and other outdoor enthusiasts as well as those that simply wish to enjoy a picnic in its tranquil surroundings. The sheer rock faces are used by rock climbers. Malham Cove can only be reached on foot, via a public footpath from Malham village, which involves a walk of about 1 mile. There are no admission charges.
