The National Museum of Scotland is located in the historic old town of Edinburgh where is opened in 1998. The architecture of the building caused controversy at the time and as a protest Prince Charles resigned as patron. It is laid out with five themed exhibitions taking you from pre-history to the Industrial Revolution then right up to the present day. The museum has a café and a shop selling specially commissioned pieces relating to the museum. Tours are available or you can wander round on your own with an audio guide which is available in several languages. For the disabled visitor wheelchairs are available at no charge and lifts connect all floors. There is also disabled toilets and baby changing facilities. Opening times are Monday to Sunday 10am till 5pm. Admission is free.
