The Stand Comedy Club is open every night of the year since 1995 and presents evenings showcasing local and international, professional and amateur comedians. Racist, sexist or homophobic routines are not tolerated at the stand, but the style of comedy is not suitable for those who are easily shocked. The club is housed in the basement of a former Victorian secondary school and offers different types of evenings at different prices, the cheapest being “Red Raw”, a night for beginners to try out their comedy on the audience. Taking place of a Tuesday night, this show is presented by an experienced compere. At the other end of the scale, solo shows from better known performers or weekend shows with a number of performers are also available. The stand is involved in the Glasgow International Comedy Festival and a second comedy club has now opened in Edinburgh, offering similar programming. A bar is available at the club, and a full listing of future shows is available on their site.
