Berlin Central Station (Berlin, Germany)

Berlin “Hauptbahnhof” (Central Train Station Berlin) is located not far from the parliament building “Reichstag”, on the site of the former train station “Lehrter”. The station was designed by architect Meinhard von Gerkan. It began its operation in May 2006. Today “Hauptbanhof” is the largest railway junction in Europe. The construction of the train station has two main towers, which are connected with a glass roof in the form of arc. The whole building is covered with glass, and it has five levels all together. Berlin Central Train Station offers access to the intercity fast train ICE, Regional Express, RegionalBahn (local passenger train), S- and U-Bahn (subway), tram and bus. The train station itself is a large shopping centre, which is located on three floors. It has many shops of different kinds. On the other side of the main entrance is the Berlin Infostore (tourist information).
