Berlin Cathedral is the largest Protestant church in Germany. It is located on Museum Island in Berlin and was constructed between 1895 and 1905. Its 85 metre tall dome is modelled on that of St Peter’s in Rome. It has never been a true Cathedral by the definition of the word as it has never been the seat of a Bishop but as the largest church in Berlin it has acquired this colloquial title. Officially known as the Oberpfarr und Domkirche or in English the Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church it is an Anglican Protestant church and is used as the parish church of the Gemeinde der Oberpfarr und Domkirche zu Berlin congregation. The tombs of several prominent figures can be found inside the church and visitors can climb to the top of the tower via its 270 steps. Opening times: Monday - Saturday 0900 - 2000, Sunday & public holidays 1200 - 2000, closes 1900 October - March There is an admission charge of 5 Euros per adult (over 14 years old). Children under 14 can enter free.
