Dungeness Nature Reserve (Dungeness, United Kingdom)

This is a nature reserve run by the RSPB. It is located on a unique shingle ridge and is one of the first landing points for migrating birds: “star species” include bittern, ringed plover and slavonian grebe. There is a visitor centre which provides information as well as a good view over a lake full of birds. Hides are provided at various points on the site and there is a 2 mile marked nature trail. Events are laid on by the RSPB during the year including guided nature walks, bird spotting for beginners and activities for school groups. Refreshments are available and there is a shop. Wheelchair and pushchair access is possible, although some of the paths are over shingle which is more difficult. The website has extensive details of what to see throughout the year, and how to get there.
