Clacton Pier (Clacton-on-Sea, United Kingdom)

The first small Clacton Pier was built in 1871, but was extended to over 1000 feet in length in the heyday of seaside resorts in the first half of the 20th century. Clacton was within easy reach of London and became very popular for day trips. The pier had all the usual attractions including a theatre, dance hall, casino and swimming pool. Like many piers it suffered from both fire damage (1973) and the decline of the traditional seaside holiday. However, it is now undergoing a revival and has updated itself with amusement halls, rides, an aquarium and a variety of food outlets and bars. Traditional pier activities of fishing and boat trips are also available. Entry is free and it is open every day except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Rides and attractions are open from Easter to the end of October. There is limited paying car parking nearby.
