Assembly Rooms (Bath, United Kingdom)

The Assembly Rooms were designed by John Wood the Younger and opened their doors in 1771. The Georgian Halls were the meeting point of the fashionable society and Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Joseph Haydn and Johann Strauss the Elder are just some of the famous visitors the rooms have accommodated. There are four rooms and all can be seen, a Ball Room, a Tea Room (also known as the Concert Room), the Octagon Room and a Card Room. The building is also home to the Bath Fashion Museum which is located on the lower floor. The entrance to the Assembly Rooms is free but there are admission charges to the Fashion Museum. There is a collection of works of art on display and the rooms are lit by nine chandeliers which are considered as some of the finest examples from the 18th century that are still existing. A cafe can be found in the tea room, summertime also in the formal garden. The Assembly Rooms are fully accessible for wheelchair users. Further amenities include baby changing facilities and gift shop. The rooms can be rented for functions.
