KImmeridge Bay near Kimmeridge is a cove on the Dorset coast, part of the so-called Jurassic Coast which has been declared a World Heritage Site as a whole. The bay is known for its fossil,s even on a coastline which is famed for them. The cliff sides open up and provide a clear view of layers of soil and rock that goes back to the time the area was formed, more than 150 million years ago. It is possible to collect the fossils on the beach though hammering is not permitted. The bay also boasts limestone edges that provide a practical way to get near to marine wildlife and there is a visitors’ centre of the Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve in the bay.
