City Hall (London, United Kingdom)

City Hall is the headquarters of the Greater London Authority including the chambers of the London Assembly and the offices of the Mayor of London. It stands on the South Bank of the river Thames, close to Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast and is a futuristic building designed by leading UK architect Sir Norman Foster. It’s shape is described as a modified sphere but many observers have made other less flattering descriptions including the first Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, who called it the ‘Glass Testicle’. City Hall is primarily a working building and not a tourist attraction as such although visitors can access limited parts of the building on Mondays to Thursdays from 8.30 to 18.00 and Fridays from 8.30 to 17.30. Visitor access is restricted to the ground, lower ground and second floors although a viewing platform at the top of the building is occasionally accessible. There are no fees to enter the building.
