Castel Sant'Angelo (Rome, Italy)

Der Bau der Engelsburg wurde im 2.Jh. durch Kaiser Hadrian in Auftrag gegeben, ursprünglich als Grabanlage. Später wurde Die Burg zur Festung ausgebaut. 1277 veranlaßte Papst Nikolaus III., die Burg mit dem Vatikan durch einen unterirdischen Gang zu verbinden. Damals diente sie als Fluchtburg des Papstes in politisch unsicheren Zeiten. Zu Beginn des 20.Jhds wurde die Engelsburg als Museum eingerichtet. Hier kann man u.a. eine Waffensammlung, Modelle zur Baugeschichte und eine Schatzkammer besichtigen. Außerdem bietet sich ein schöner Ausblick auf Rom. Öffnungszeiten: Dienstags-Sonntags 9-20 Uhr
