Tivoli (Copenhagen, Denmark)

Tivoli or Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark is the second oldest amusement park in the world. Georg Carstensen designed it in 1843 on a 15-acre site to the west of the city. Within the park there are many important buildings including the Pantomime Theatre which is a Chinese style theatre and a classical concert hall that hosts live shows and performances. Tivoli also contains a theme park with numerous thrill-seeker rides as well as more gentle merry-go-rounds. Rutsjebanen or Bjerg Banen (Mountain Track) as it is also known is a wooden roller coaster dating from 1914 and is the world’s oldest rollercoaster still in use. Whilst the park’s newest rollercoaster, Vertigo opened in May 2009. Other rides include Demonen (The Demon) and the Immelmann Loop, which at 80 metres high is the world’s tallest carousel and provides a panoramic view of Copenhagen. Tivoli is open daily throughout the year with the exception of a few public holidays. Full details of the opening times along with the admission prices are available on the website.
