The Tel Dan Nature Reserve is a hiking park in the north of Israel on the Dan River. The waters that fill the Dan river come from the run-off from snow and rain from Israel’s tallest mountain, Mount Hermon which is just north east of this reserve. The undergrown waters from the Hermon make springs and rivers in the area, and at Tel Dan, there is a 120 acre area of springs and rivers which have been carefully preserved and made into this park. There are four different hikes available, of varying difficulty, from short and very easy - which is a wheelchair accessible trail - to a walk that takes over an hour and includes some climbing but nothing that needs equipment. The walks are can be done all year round, including in summer as the paths are almost completely covered in very lush foliage almost all year round and wander back and forth following the river. In addition to the nature park visitors will find an old waterwheel which was part of working a flour mill up until 60 years ago and is believed to have served people living in the area as long ago as biblical times. Tel Dan Nature Reserve can be found on Route 99 (the Kiryat Shemona-Mas’ade Road) and the entrance is 11 kilometers east of Hamezudot junction. A restaurant, snack bar and picnic area are available within the reserve.
