Omaha Beach (Colleville-sur-Mer, France)

Omaha Beach at Colleville-sur-Mer was one of the US landing beaches on D Day 1944, and it has retained the codename ever since. It was the largest of the landing beaches and here, and at nearby Pointe du Hoc, was some of the fiercest fighting and highest casualties. Today the six mile long, gently sloping beach is ideal for sailing and windsurfing and has a nautical centre which offers sailing courses. Immediately behind the beach there is a range of walking routes along the dunes.
