Albert Cuypmarkt (Amsterdam, Netherlands)

The Albert Cuyp Market is a street market situated to the south of Amsterdam town centre in De Pijp district. The market takes its name after a 17th century Dutch painter. It became an official market in 1905, when it was open only on Saturday evenings. In 1912, the market became a day time market, open 6 days a week and has remained so since. The Albert Cuypstraat is closed to traffic during market hours. This market is the busiest in the Netherlands, and some say that it is the largest in Europe. It is a very international market, by its visitors but also by its stands. Everything is sold here from fruit and vegetables to clothes, toys, electrical goods and shoes. Typical Dutch food such as the famous Dutch Stroopwafel or herrings in bread can be found here. On the side walks there is a huge choice of International restaurants with menus at interesting prices. The market is open from Monday to Saturdays from 9.30am to 5pm.
