Magaluf – sun, sea and sangria where the party never stops
Magaluf is a bustling holiday resort on the Balearic Island of Majorca in Spain. Magaluf, and the neighbouring resort of Palma Nova just a few minutes away, are particularly popular with British visitors. British holidaymakers are especially well catered for thanks to the massive choice of friendly British-run pubs and bars throughout the resort that serve British-style meals, including the ever-popular full English breakfast. As a holiday resort Magaluf is a town where there is never a dull moment, with loads of activities and entertainment available day and night. But if you want to relax and make the most of the wonderful climate, lovely white sandy beaches and the sparkling warm water, you can do that too.
Take to the water
When you fancy a change from the pool at your hotel in Magaluf, or a change from relaxing on the beach, there are plenty of water-based activities you can try out. One of these options is Western Water Park which has big slides and a wave pool, as well as a lazy river ride for you and the family to enjoy. Failing that, there are sunbeds and parasols available for you to kick back while the kids burn off some energy. For a different view of Magaluf, you could always take a speedboat trip. These trips are lots of fun, and you can expect to get soaked to the skin! However you will also have the opportunity to look at the luxury yachts as you whizz around, and you might also stop in a sheltered cove for a drink and a swim. For the extra adventurous holidaymaker, Isa de sa Porrassa, or Black Lizard Island, is located 400 metres out into Magaluf’s bay, and is a definite holiday challenge. Those who take on the challenge have to swim out to the island and then climb up the rock, which is home to the black lizards of the islands name. Of course, you then have to swim back again too.
The place to party
Magaluf is a very popular destination for groups of friends looking for a fun and cheap place to spend a weekend, particularly those on stag and hen parties, as well as summer holidays. The centre of nightlife in Magaluf is at Punta Balena where you will find a long strip of bars and clubs, including those which play host to internationally known DJs. If you want to party during the daytime, that is always an option on one of the many party boats that are available. Upon purchasing your ticket, your party boat will head out of the harbour on an afternoon and evening for drinking, dancing and party games. On returning, after everyone has returned to their hotels to freshen up, revellers meet later for a bar crawl. If pubs and clubs are not for you, but you still want to be entertained, try one of the dinner and show experiences. A popular choice for all adults and kids of all ages is the local pirate show which has music, acrobatics and dramatic sword fighting with dinner and drinks included.
Hunt for some bargains
If you have booked an all inclusive hotel in Magaluf you may not want to venture out, but if you would like to take back some souvenirs of your trip, you should try exploring one of the local markets. Held on a morning on different days in the towns around Magaluf, you will find clothing, shoes and handcrafted items as well as good-quality food. Among the popular purchases are the leather handbags and lace tablecloths, but just remember to really haggle over the price because if you can get yourself a good deal there might be enough money left over to start thinking about future last minute holidays to Magaluf! On the outskirts of Palma you will find Festival Park. Designed to look like a traditional Spanish village, this retail park has restaurants, a cinema and an ice rink, as well as a range of shops to browse in. You could also try Porto Pi for some retail therapy in air conditioned comfort. This is a large shopping centre to the southwest of Palma which is easily reached from Magaluf.
