Review summary

This AI-generated summary was based on reviews from multiple
sites

This hotel is highly regarded for its stunning harbor views, particularly from rooms with balconies and various dining areas, which many guests consider a signature feature. The exceptional Sunday carvery also stands out as a major highlight. It is an ideal destination for couples seeking a scenic and relaxing getaway, families looking to explore the local area, and coach tour groups who find the hotel well-equipped and accommodating. Guests consistently praise the hotel's cleanliness, the quality of its food, and the attentive service provided by the staff. To enhance your stay, consider requesting a room with a balcony overlooking the harbor for the best experience, and be sure to try the highly praised Sunday carvery for a memorable meal.

Facilities & Amenities
The hotel offers several appealing facilities that enhance the guest experience. Many guests enjoy the sun terrace and bar balcony, which provide lovely spots to relax and take in the picturesque views over the harbor. The presence of a lift or elevator is frequently appreciated, especially for accessing upper floors and for guests with mobility needs, including a dedicated wheelchair lift. Rooms are equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and a TV with a good selection of channels. While Wi-Fi is available, some guests have reported issues with its reliability in certain areas. The hotel also maintains a dog-friendly policy, which is a significant plus for pet owners.

Cleanliness & Room Comfort
Guests generally find the hotel and rooms to be spotlessly clean and well-maintained, with many describing them as modern and freshly decorated. Most guests report comfortable beds that ensure a restful night's sleep. However, feedback on room comfort is mixed regarding size and specific amenities. Many reviews highlight that the bathroom areas are notably small and cramped, with some finding them awkward to use. Noise can be an issue, with mentions of noisy corridors, other guests, and particularly seagulls outside the rooms. Some rooms have also been described as hot and stifling, even in cooler weather, with bright emergency lights over doors making it difficult to sleep, despite the presence of blackout curtains. While many rooms offer desirable harbor views, some have limited or obstructed outlooks.

Dining & Food Quality
The hotel's dining experience receives widespread acclaim, particularly for its Sunday carvery, which many guests describe as exceptional, featuring high-quality meats and perfectly cooked vegetables. Breakfast is generally praised for its variety, good quality, and ample choices, often served buffet-style, though some guests found the continental selection limited or the coffee subpar. Evening meals receive mixed feedback; while many guests commend the delicious food, excellent presentation, and good value, especially for specific dishes like the burger or fish, some coach tour guests reported inconsistent quality, slow service, or smaller portions. The restaurant and bar areas offer a pleasant atmosphere, often with stunning views over the river, enhancing the dining experience.

Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts an excellent location, situated directly on the harbor front and offering picturesque views of the river and surrounding town. Its central location means guests are within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the beach, with the main street just a short stroll across the bridge. Accessibility is generally good, with the hotel being conveniently positioned. However, parking is a significant point of mixed feedback. There is no dedicated on-site parking, and while options like paid harbor-front parking or a larger car park a short walk away exist, guests frequently describe parking as challenging, inconvenient, and potentially expensive, especially during busy periods.

Staff & Service
The staff at the hotel consistently receive overwhelming praise for their friendliness, helpfulness, and professionalism. Guests frequently highlight their welcoming demeanor and willingness to go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay. The check-in process is often described as quick and efficient, with staff readily assisting with luggage. Many reviews commend the attentive service provided across all departments, from the reception to the dining room. Specific instances of staff accommodating special requests, such as birthday surprises or dietary needs, are frequently mentioned. While the vast majority of feedback is positive, a few guests noted isolated instances of slower service or less helpful interactions, but these appear to be exceptions.

Additional Information
The hotel is frequently chosen by coach tour groups, indicating its suitability and experience in accommodating larger parties. Many guests find the hotel offers good value for money, with reasonable prices for both accommodation and dining. The hotel also provides entertainment on some evenings, adding to the guest experience. A unique offering is the locals discount card, which is appreciated by local patrons. While rooms are generally comfortable, some guests have noted issues with rooms being excessively warm, though fans are often supplied. The hotel also has a pet-friendly policy, welcoming dogs in certain areas.
