Positive Reviews

Centrally located

Although in the centre of York with everything on its doorstep, the hotel still manages to be quite secluded and hidden away from the hustle and bustle. However, everything guests want to see is within easy walking distance, including York Minster just next door, the York Shambles and the ancient city walls.

Stunningly decorated

The hotel’s decor is reported to be beautiful, with antique furniture and luxury finishes that really lend the place a wow factor befitting of the building’s historic past. The garden is also a gem and, in the summer months especially, it is described as a fantastic place to relax.

Lovely and helpful staff members

Reviews suggest that the staff members here are always willing to help. They reportedly go above and beyond to help guests and ensure that they have an enjoyable stay without being too overbearing. Furthermore, they are more than happy to help guests out and make suggestions on what there is to see and do in York.

Negative Reviews

Parking can be problematic

Some guests are disappointed that they face parking charges to use the limited spaces available on site. Moreover, motorists sometimes need to find alternative spaces when all the hotel's spaces are occupied. This doesn't always prove to be a straightforward task in the centre of a city with a large heritage area where parking is somewhat limited.

Food can be inconsistent

The food doesn’t always live up to expectations, according to disappointed diners. They report that the breakfast and afternoon teas are lacking in variety. In addition, there are repeated claims that the kitchen can be slow in getting food out to guests.
