Positive Reviews

Stunning location

To say this hostel enjoys an ideal location is an understatement Right next to the old abbey ruins, the hostel has excellent views of Whitby and the surrounding countryside Truly magnificent.

Fantastic facilities

Youth hostels are usually well equipped with plenty of things to do, but this hostel is well above average There is a games room, a comfortable TV lounge and a self-catering kitchen They even have a restaurant serving a wide range of evening meals.

Friendly staff the icing on the cake

The hostel is in such a perfect location and is incredible value for money, but it’s the staff that are the cherry on top They go well out of their way to extend a warm welcome and are more than willing to help out with sightseeing trips and other things to do.

Negative Reviews

A few niggles here and there

The lack of a shelf in the bathroom for your toiletries is a bit annoying as is the fact that there is no lift in the hostel It’s a historic building, but it would still be nice to have a lift for those that aren’t as mobile as others.

Check-out time is a bit early

A 10am check out might be ok for school tours and the likes but for a family or even a couple on a relaxing weekend break it’s just a little too early It means you have to get up very early if you want a shower and breakfast before leaving.

Not the best food

Yes, this is a hostel but that doesn’t mean that the breakfast or the food in the café should be below standard A few guests have complained that even though the hostel is ideally located and very cheap, the breakfast is average at best.
