About Saxonville

Saxonville is a family-run hotel in Whitby, run by the Newton family since 1946 across three generations, offering three star accommodation.

Each of the rooms has been individually decorated and designed. Rooms range from a luxurious four poster room to the cosy single bedroom. All rooms benefit from en-suite facilities, TV, hospitality tray and other basic amenities.

The hotel's private car park is situated across the road and can accommodate up to 20 cars. The hotel can cater for private functions, such as weddings and corporate conferences and events.

The Fairfield Restaurant offers quality cuisine, served in a spacious and attractive setting. A Table d’hôte menu is available as well as an extensive a la carte menu and a children's menu. Special dietary requirements can be catered for.

Whitby is a quaint, harbour-side town, offering streets filled with independent shops and antique shops.

Lovely location close to the sea.

Guests comment on the lovely location of the hotel, which seems to be just a couple of streets back from the sea and a short walk into Whitby town centre. Guests also comment on the conveniently-located hotel car park just across the street.

Professional and attentive staff.

Reviews are overwhelmingly praising of the hotel staff, who are described as professional, attentive, friendly and welcoming. Guests praise the cleaning staff, who reportedly keep bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas spotlessly clean.

Excellent food.

The food served seems to be well received, with guests commenting on food being plentiful, reasonably priced and hot, traditional food. Some guests do suggest that the menu could be modernised, however the majority of visitors seem to enjoy the traditional menu.

Negative Reviews

Basic, tired rooms.

A number of guests comment that the hotel is in need of redecoration and refurbishment, and that the bedrooms themselves are particularly tired and dated. Guests comment that the hotel feels old fashioned, and that the exterior is potentially off-putting.

No Wi-Fi in the bedrooms.

There seems to be no Wi-Fi available in the bedrooms, which guests comment feels antiquated. WiFi is available in communal areas of the hotel, however it seems to be slow at times. Guests comment that they would expect a decent WiFi service to be provided in a hotel of this type.

No lift service and narrow staircases.

A few guests comment on the fact that there is no lift service available in the hotel, and that staircases, particularly those leading up to the higher floors, are exceptionally narrow, making manoeuvring luggage up them tricky. However, the hotel website does specify that disabled access is not available, and that those with mobility issues are able to request rooms on the lower floors.
