About The Royal

An Englishman’s view of France.

Here in Ventnor and on the southern tip of the Isle of Wight, there is a micro climate where Mediterranean and tropical plants thrive. It’s all here at The Royal where, sitting in the peaceful gardens, the French coast is in clear view.

Staff presence.

They are very attentive to every detail of your visit, but without coming across as being obtrusively fussy. They take a pride in their work and in their hotel; with very good reason.

Eat your heart out.

That’s the postcard message to friends at home. From breakfast to dinner and with all those tit bits in between, dining here is a joy. There is lots of fresh produce on the island and you sense that a good proportion of this has gone into the imaginative

Parking paradise is lost.

When you eventually find it round the back of the hotel, parking is tight and sometimes full to capacity. Anyhow, assume that you grab a space, then it’s quite a few minutes’ walk from there, round to the hotel entrance. Fine in fine weather; less so if r

Don’t aim too high.

There is a lift but it doesn’t access all floors and rooms. If in the slightest disabled or advanced in years, it’s best to check this out when booking.

Dated rooms.

Not all room areas are up to scratch. Some still wallow in the décor of the last century and can be a source of disappointment for guests expecting more.
