Positive Reviews

A historic building and surrounding area

Guests say this is an authentic and historic building with bags of charm inherited from days gone by. It is, they feel, virtually impossible to resist the appeal of the building and that of the district in which it so conveniently sits. Guests are thrilled that they only have to walk a very short distance to Pelourinho Square and its historic charm.

Friendly staff speaks English

Staff is very kind and helpful. They are happy to advise guests on places to visit as well as best value restaurants for dining. Guests admit to not speaking Portuguese, so they are particularly pleased to find that members of staff speak good English.

Negative Reviews

Air conditioning must be a relic from the past

Guests suggest that the air conditioning is a relic from when the building was a convent. It is now very old, noisy, and simply not up to the job. The result is that those travelling in the summer months find their rooms get much too hot.

The hotel needs a major refurb

Guests are fully aware of the intense humidity experienced in the building and the associated smell of mould. These factors reflect the darker side of this historic building and highlight the need for a long overdue programme of intensive maintenance and renovation.

Breakfast is poor

Breakfast is a source of disappointment. Guests say that it lacks flavour, quality, and choice. Th fruit juices come in for especially harsh criticism, with guest describing them as bland.
