About The Old Mill

Occupying a former mill which dates back to the 12th century, The Old Mill is located right on the River Nadder, a 15-minute walk from the centre of Salisbury.

The 11 guest rooms of this centuries-old building are surprisingly modern, fitted out with the latest contemporary features, including flat-screen TVs and coffee machines.

The Old Mill offers several freebies to its guests, including free on-site parking and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. Guests can also make the most of the scenic riverside garden.

The hotel's restaurant enchants with period features and serves traditional British dishes. In the summer, guests can enjoy alfresco barbecues.

The Old Mill is a 15-minute walk along the Town Path to Salisbury Cathedral and the city centre. It's also just a mile from the city's train station.

Positive Reviews

Idyllic location on the River Nadder.

Set in a pastoral scene so perfect that Turner himself painted it, if country charm is your thing, then The Old Mill will delight you. Previous visitors wax lyrical about the water meadows, mill wheels, and flowing river.

Comfortable, clean and cosy.

Some old hotels show their age, but The Old Mill is not one of them. The place is kept spotlessly clean and fresh-looking. Guests also praise the comfortable, good-sized beds and cosy rooms.

Good food and varied menus.

Starting the day with breakfast cooked to order is always a bonus, and it seems that the restaurant has guests coming back for dinner too, with its varied menus and high-quality, seasonal ingredients.

Negative Reviews

Rooms directly above the pub are a bit noisy.

While rooms on the upper levels are very tranquil, noise from the pub does drift up to those on the first floor. It all quietens down at a reasonable hour, but if you want total peace, it's worth requesting a higher-level room.

The water pressure is sometimes low.

You can kind of forgive an 800-year-old building if it creaks and sputters a little bit, but some guests have warned that at certain times, the showers can be a bit weak.

It's not ideal for guests with mobility issues.

The Old Mill has its fair share of medieval nooks, crannies and narrow staircases. It all adds to the charm of the place, but it means that guests with mobility difficulties will struggle. Hotel staff can assist with luggage, however.
