About Trowel & Hammer Inn

The Trowel & Hammer Inn is a historic guesthouse, with origins as an 18th century hospital and as an early 19th century tavern. Rooms are above the pub.

Most rooms are ensuite, and all include flatscreen TV, hairdryer, coffee/tea, and free Wi-Fi. A couple of the rooms also include a small sofa. Accommodations are not available for children.

Reservations are not needed for the free onsite parking, but guests are advised to notify in advance if they will have a car. The pub has a pool table and tavern games, and hosts live music on Saturday nights. An access key is required if returning to the rooms after midnight.

A complementary English breakfast is available at the Trowel & Hammer Inn. The pub has a beer garden, and serves lunch and dinner Monday-Saturday, and Sunday roast.

Theatre Royal, Norwich Arts Centre, and Maddermarket Theatre are within a 10-15 minute walk.

Positive Reviews

Bathrooms are spacious and rooms are comfortable

The rooms are done up in cool crisp designs, simple and modern, and quite cosy They're extremely clean, and kept consistent by attentive housekeeping Beds are very comfortable, and well appreciated for being as expected The bathrooms are also surprisingly and thankfully spacious.

Great Norwich location for walking and transit

A lot can be accessed on foot or through public transportation, which benefits non-drivers, and saves drivers money on gas and parking costs You can walk into city centre within five minutes, while Norwich Castle and Norwich Playhouse are only a half of a mile away Shopping, takeaway, recreation, and rails are nearby Eaton Park, Coltishall, and Wroxham can be reached within 25-45 minutes by bus.

The owners are very friendly and welcoming

It's always refreshing when the guesthouse's owners are great to be around and make you want to return The brothers make everyone feel welcome and valued.

Negative Reviews

Public shared parking can be inconvenient

Parking for the Trowel & Hammer Inn is also open to the public, which can create slight problems at times It can become crowded, difficult, and annoying, which offputs the plus side of guests not paying a fee If you can get to where you want by walking, bus, or train, it may be better to leave your car in the space until you check out.

Telly is disappointing and Wi-Fi reception is poor

Minor grievances, but should be noted that the telly is small, and has poor reception, as does reliable Wi-Fi service.

Not prepared for the excessive bar noise at night

Live performances and rowdy sports' fans are likely to affect the three rooms above the bar If you're not interested in joining the crowd or aren't going to be out late, request a quiet room.
