About Plato's

Set in a lovely area on the edge of the Lake District, Plato’s offers guests’ accommodation in an exquisitely renovated period property with a strong design focus.

Each of the rooms have been uniquely designed and decorated, and also furnished to a high standard. Each features en-suite bathroom, fat screen TV and luxury linens.

Overnight guests will receive a parking permit, good for several spots nearby. Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the property.

The stylish in-house restaurant is well regarded in the area and serves all three meals, using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. The friendly bar is very popular with locals, and is a great place to socialise over a couple of drinks.

Kirkby is in a great spot to explore both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, being more or less midway between the two. Closer to home, there are also great walks along the River Lune, which runs past Kirkby Lonsdale.

Positive Reviews

Great atmosphere in the bar and restaurant

Guests really seemed to like the atmosphere in both the bar and restaurant. They are apparently immensely popular with a wide range of local people, and guests enjoyed the conversations and local knowledge. They were certainly happy that they were not entirely frequented by fellow tourists. Oh…and the food and drink were highly rated as well.

Lovely welcoming atmosphere

Many guests commented on the tea, cake and chat on arrival, saying that it may have been a small gesture, but it went a far way in making them feel comfortable and welcome. Guests also complimented the staff on their local knowledge, many gaining valuable information on the surrounding area from them.

Show cooking at breakfast

While perhaps not intentional, guests mention that the kitchen the breakfast is cooked in is visible from the tables. This resulted in some impromptu show-cooking which most seemed to really enjoy.

Negative Reviews

No off-street parking

This was a frequently voiced complaint. While the hotel does issue guests with parking permits good for public parking in the area, it seems this was not enough for many, who really missed having the convenience of returning after a long day to a waiting spot right by their hotel.

Rooms a bit too small for some

This was perhaps the most common negative observation. It didn't seem to matter a great deal to most, but many did certainly notice, and report, that the rooms were a bit on the small side.  Guests who tend to like spacious rooms should take note.

Some problems with Wi-Fi

While not very prevalent, some guests did have some frustrating experiences with the Wi-Fi, saying that the signal didn't seem to reach some rooms, or would cut out unexpectedly.
