Positive Reviews

Quiet, picture-postcard setting.

The Castle is surrounded by 12 acres of tranquil and well-presented gardens which were highly praised by many of the guests. During the warmer weather many enjoyed taking a leisurely stroll through the grounds and taking pictures of the resident peacocks and other wildlife.

Food leaves a lasting impression on many.

The food served at the on-site restaurant has been described as extremely tasty and beautifully presented. Many of the guests said that their dining experience was thoroughly enjoyable and they reserved their highest praise for the chef and the waiting staff. Breakfasts were also said to be freshly prepared and of excellent quality.

Full of character and steeped in history.

The Castle dates back to the 14th century and many of the guests admired the numerous original features as well as the antique furniture in the communal areas and the guest rooms. A tour of the Castle is available including the battlements which many of the guests thoroughly enjoyed.

Negative Reviews

Tiring climb up the stairs.

There is no lift within the Castle which meant that guests whose rooms were on the upper levels had to climb several flights of stairs every day. Although the reception staff offer to help guests with their luggage it would be advisable that those who have mobility issues request rooms on the ground floor.

Problems with Wi-Fi.

Some guests complained about the slow Wi-Fi connection and those whose rooms were located on the top floor of the hotel found it extremely difficult to connect to the internet from their devices.

Lack of choice on the menus.

The restaurant only offers set menus and some guests who wanted lighter meals objected to only being offered the fine dining option. Guests also criticised the lack of choice for children and vegetarians.
