Positive Reviews

Rooms pass the test

Guests find the rooms to be satisfactory. Cleanliness is taken seriously at this bed-and-breakfast and guests have been quick to note that the linens are crisp and clean and that they felt comfortable staying at this location.

Small, attentive staff

This is an intimate, quaint location and with it comes a quaint, small staff The guests note that the location doesn’t feel understaffed however, and that they are very attentive when working reception, serving breakfast, or responding to specific requests In general, the staff receives high marks.

Easy to reach POIs

It’s easy to reach points of interest when staying at McLays Guests note that they can reach the station(s) for bus pickup within about ten minutes by foot The city centre is reachable after about a 15-minute walk, as well.

Negative Reviews

Shower difficult to control

Some guests have noted some displeasure with the bathroom setup at the bed-and-breakfast A few felt the shower specifically was difficult to control, and that the range from hot to cold water was difficult to anticipate and adapt to.

Small lift and troublesome stairs

The lift at the hotel is not large This aspect is complicated by the fact that there is a large, rather steep flight of stairs greeting guests upon their arrival Such a setup may prove worrisome to the elderly and disabled, so please bear this in mind as you consider booking.

Basic breakfast

While the quality of the food and its preparation isn’t exactly in question by guests to McLays, a number did express some dissatisfaction with the fact that there is no cooked-to-order breakfast offered and that the cook staff wasn’t flexible You’re stuck with whatever they give you on your plate in the morning if you opt into the hotel breakfast.
