Positive Reviews

Historical both inside and out

This pub is one of the most iconic buildings in Exeter It oozes history and even the bedrooms, some of which have four poster beds, let you feel like you’ve stepped back in time But while historic it is still clean and comfortable.

Wonderful staff are so helpful

The staff at this hotel make your stay a memorable one Whether it’s by helping you to recover a lost item or by assisting you in planning your trip around the city, they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

Worth much more than its price suggests

This hotel comes in the budget hotel category, but in terms of both service and comfort is far beyond what you’d expect from low-cost accommodation The staff, rooms, and food are of such a high standard that you’ll wonder how this hotel is not more expensive A hidden gem.

Negative Reviews

Needs a makeover

The rooms are comfortable, but the entire hotel needs a makeover Of course, it is a historic building but the rooms could be a little more modern and inviting.

Rooms in the old building can get noisy

Fifteen of the rooms are in the original building, but the ones at the front, in particular, can get a bit of noise from the street throughout the night and in the early morning Not very good for light sleepers Probably best to stay in the newer rooms at the back.

Not a great selection at breakfast

The breakfast is included in your room rate, but some guests have noted that it could be a little better It seems that while a full English is on offer, there are not enough other options for those that prefer a healthier breakfast.
