The Round Church (Cambridge, United Kingdom)

Now known as The Round Church, this Norman construction was begun as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre around 1130AD. There are only five churches of this pattern (circular rather than cross-shaped nave) in England. A gothic tower was added in the fifteenth century which required major reconstuction after a partial collapse. A spire and bell tower were additions during Victorian times. The new east window depicting the risen Christ replaced an earlier one destroyed during World War II. The church was used regularly until 1994 when its congregation moved to the larger church of St Andrew the Great. Christian Heritage are now converting the building into an exhibition centre. “Saints and Scholars” is a specially prepared video presentation which describes the Christian heritage of Cambridge. There are also guided walking tours of the City. Opening hours: 10am - 5pm (Tuesday - Saturday) 1pm - 5pm (Sunday, Monday) Admission: Adults: £1 Under 15: free There is no parking on site. Parking is also quite limited in Cambridge City centre but there are Park and Ride Schemes which are easily accessible.
