Sexmuseum (Amsterdam, Netherlands)

The “Temple of Venus” is the world’s first (but not only) sex museum and it was opened in 1985. Arranged in two interlinked houses is a collection of books, manuals, paintings, figurines, erotica and sex aids from Greek and Roman times right up to the present day. Ancient Greek phallic symbols, chastity belts, Chinese marriage guidance and pictures of Marilyn Munroe help chart what has changed and what has been constant in sexual mores across the centuries. It is located on the Damrak in the centre of Amsterdam. There is a flat entrance fee of €2.50.
