Rufford Abbey Country Park (Ollerton, United Kingdom)

Rufford Abbey Country Park near Ollerton in North Nottinghamshire is the former estate of the Saville family. This wealthy family acquired the 150 acre estate in 1626 and converted part of a former Cisterian Abbey on the site into their family home. In 1969 Nottinghamshire County Council purchased the estate and opened it as a country park. Within the country park there is a lake, mature woodland, heath, landscaped gardens and farmland. A former mill called Rufford Mill has been converted into a shop, café and garden centre and a restaurant called the Saville Restaurant can be found in the Jacobean Wing of the house. The ruins of the Abbey, which are adjacent to the house are cared for by English Heritage and are free to visit, but with the exception of the part of the house where the Saville Restaurant is located, the rest of the house is not open to the public. Admission to Rufford Abbey Country Park and the ruins of the Abbey within it is free but a £3 car park fee applies during the summer months.
