Oxford is a city with many museums, but this Museum of Oxford is the only one that focuses on the history of the city itself. Run by the local city council, it offers both temporary and permanent exhibitions on the city of Oxford - dating back to long before the University was founded and putting the city into historical context. Visitors can view a film presentation about the city and see room settings from different periods. During 2007 entrance is free - for later dates, it’s probably best to check the website. The museum is closed on Mondays but open from 10 am to 5 pm most days with the exception of Sundays, when it opens at noon.
