Loch Laggan (Kinloch Laggan, United Kingdom)

Located in Glen Spean east of Fort William Loch Laggan is a freshwater loch that runs along the side of the A86 main road from Kingussie to Spean Bridge. It has been used as a reservoir since 1934 when a dam wall was built and is now part of the Lochaber Hydro Electricity scheme. It boasts the largest frshwater beach in Britain. The loch is over 16km long and is an important habitat for wildlife and supports several pairs of breeding Red Throated Divers whilst the surrounding mountains contain Ptramigan, Golden Eagle and Dotterel. On the south east of the loch lies the Ardverikie Estate, which is the setting for the TV series “Monarch of the Glen”.
