The Leeds City Museum opened on the 13th September 2008 and was the culmination of a £20 million project to replace the city’s former museum that closed in 1998. Many of the items from the former museum had been put into storage or loaned out to other museums but they have now been brought back together under one roof. The museum is located in Millennium Square in the former Mechanic’s Institute building that later became the old Civic Theatre. It is a Grade 2 listed building. Facilities include a gift shop and toilets. The museum is fully accessible by disabled visitors. Admission is free. The opening hours are: Monday closed Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 11am until 6pm Thursday 11am until 8pm Saturday, Sunday 11am until 5pm
