Lee Valley Regional Park (London, United Kingdom)
The Lee Valley Regional Park stretches over 26 miles, from Ware in Herfordshire through some parts of Essex to the Thames at East India Dock. It offers an area of 10.000 acres, incorporating sports centres, heritage sites, nature reserves, country parks and lake and riverside trails. The park is home to a riding centre, ice skating rink, golf course, leisure pool and several marinas and offers possibilities for angling and fishing and many miles of cycling routes. The heritage sites along the river Lee include the Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey, the East India Docks and Blackwall Pier, Myddelton House and Gardens in Enfield and many more and there are also several permanent and temporary arts sites and two Park Farms awaiting visitors. The Lee Valley is also a popular spot for bird watching and home to many species of animals such as otter, water vole, bats and grass snake and lovers of orchids will surely enjoy to follow the “Orchid Discovery Trail”. There are several picnic areas within the park as well as restaurants and cafes, toilets and renting facilities for bicycles. For those who’d like to spend the night there is a campsite in Sewardstone nr Chingford, a camping and caravan site in Edmonton and a caravan site At Dobbs Weir in Hoddesdon. The trails around the park are wheelchair accessible and there are parking facilities along the way as well as many possibilities to reach the park via public transport. The entrance to the park is free but some of the attractions and sports facilities within the park are subject to admission fees.
