Hotel SBH Maxorata Resort (Playa de Jandia, Spain)

The resort of Jandia is delightful but travelling a little further brings you to Corralejo. The harbour to the north has ferries to Islote de Lobos; truly idyllic.and then there's La Lajita, where Ocean Park and the animal reserve are situated. Giraffes, elephants, zebras etc; are all waiting here for you to feed them! Not just Jandia, but this area of the island has loads of things to keep you occupied. Remember, ‘J’ is pronounced ‘H’ ... so it couldn’t be ‘jandier’ to get to!

The hotel is fine. Rooms are a bit dated but you are rarely in them. Food is plentiful and varied and with 3 pools there’s space for everyone ... until about 10am when the late night revellers get out of bed! Just be aware, there is an emphasis on German which extends to languages spoken and menus. Sometimes the English language doesn’t cut the mustard here.

Reception staff are great and very helpful and those who work like Trojans to keep the kids occupied can only be admired for an abundance of enthusiasm, energy and talent.

You’ve had a long flight with probably, an ultra early start to get to the airport before that. On landing, the doors open and you feel that warm air wafting in. Wonderful! Unfortunately, you then face another 2 hour journey to transfer to the hotel!

Talk about the ‘desert breeze’; that sand gets in the apartment, food, suntan lotion … everywhere!

It looks past it’s best now. Everything’s dated + they charge (a lot!) for things like Wi-Fi and room safe.
