The Sands is a four star sea front hotel with 20 rooms located on the Isle of Thanet, Margate. It gives a beautiful view of the sea and is a five minute walk from Turner Contemporary Gallery. Guests can choose rooms named Superior seaview, Seaview attic, Classic seaview, Townview and Undercroft. Décor in all rooms has been coastal-inspired and are provided with flat screen televisions, comfortable beds with silk and Egyptian cotton bedding, air conditioning and tea/ coffee making facilities. Minifridges are stocked with refreshments that are complimentary. A conference room bar/ lounge, roof top terrace, parking and free Wi-Fi is present. A function space-Terrace Suite can be hired for functions like weddings, engagements and birthdays. In-room spa treatments are provided on charges. Good breakfast spread is complimentary. Bay restaurant and an ice cream parlor called Gelato at Melt are present onsite. The Sands is an eleven minutes’ walk from Shell Grotto and few minutes from Palm Bay Beach.
Guests loved the view of the Margate Sands and Bay right from their rooms. It is also close to some of the old town galleries, beach, shops and good bars. Most of the guests felt that the contemporary décor of rooms was worth a mention. Rooms were clean and very modern with all the basic amenities.
All the guests loved the jazz night that had some great music. Along with delicious food at the onsite restaurant, jazz night created a cheerful ambience which was absolutely loved by the guests. Kids had a great time at the ice cream parlor.
Staff was very accommodating and helpful as per many guests. They always had a smile on their faces which made the guests feel at home. Bathrooms were spacious with underfloor heating, done up beautifully with rain head showers and lighting alcoves.
Many guests were not very happy with the car parking in a council parking passing through an alley. Guests would have appreciated if the hotel had its own car parking. Few guests even felt that it was difficult to find the parking and then walking back to the hotel with the entire luggage.
Few of the guests felt that the breakfast service was rather very slow and were kept waiting for quite some time. They felt that this delay could have been because of the slight lack of training.
Some of the guests had a tough time sleeping at night owing to the noise from the pub next door. They felt that the noise insulation would have been better if the windows were double gazed.
