Positive Reviews
positive:
Spacious rustic accommodation.
Converted from a series of farm buildings, accommodation at the Durham Ox is spacious and well-appointed. The décor and overall feel is one of rustic charm with exposed wood ceiling beams used as part of the décor. Rooms are cleaned regularly and are well-presented.
positive:
Excellent facilities.
The property is non-smoking apart from designated smoking areas and is very clean and well-maintained throughout. There is plenty of space in the converted barn for wedding and conference events and the 300 year old pub with its original floors and stone fireplace, is the centrepiece of the property.
positive:
Warm and welcoming staff.
Staff are experienced in hospitality and offer and warm and friendly welcome. The Durham Ox is family-owned and run and subsequently service is personal and very genuine.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Limited Wi-Fi availability.
There is no real Wi-Fi access available in any of the accommodation cottages which can be an issue if research or catching up on business is needed. Wi-Fi access in the restaurant or conference/banquet area is quite good however.
negative:
Some standard amenities not available.
While cottages are well-appointed with good features and décor, some amenities which would be considered standard in most accommodation are missing, the most notable of these being a hair dryer, which some have found quite inconvenient.
negative:
Choose accommodation according to needs.
One thing that is not apparently clear when making a booking at the Durham Ox is that the accommodation is not all standard. Some accommodation is designed for couples only and features smaller rooms with smaller en-suites. Larger groups or families should ensure that a cottage large enough is booked to avoid any issues or complications.
