Known far and wide for the excellent food at its in-house café, Hotel La Morena is well situated, just a few hundred yards from the beach. It offers simple, no-fuss, accommodation. The rooms are simply furnished and decorated, but so well that they nevertheless look very elegant. They have all the amenities you’ll need for a great stay, including en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning, a near necessity in the blazing Andalusian summer. Reception staff are on hand, and pride themselves in offering personalised service and recommendations. Café La Morena is a cosy venue offering traditional favourites as well as more inventive modern cuisine and has a particularly good reputation in the city. It serves all three meals. While the beach is perhaps the main attraction, and just 400 yards from Hotel La Morena, families will not want to miss Biopark Fuengirola, a naturalistic zoo with jungle habitats that is even closer.
While the hotel isn't on the beach, this did not seem to bother any guests. In fact, most seemed to prefer the location, which was described as just a short walk from the beach, but more in the town itself. Guests seemed to like the urban atmosphere and amities of the town, and still felt that of they wanted to visit the each they really didn't have far to walk.
An incredible number of guests where very, very complimentary when it came to the cleanliness of the hotel. The words “spotless” and “immaculate” often seemed to come up. Guests clearly felt that the housekeeping staff had dome a sterling job.
Guests had only good things to say about the simple in-house café on the ground floor. Most had breakfast there, which was roundly praised by many, but those enjoying the other two meals there also had a lot of praise, and seemed to understand why the café, simple as it was, had such a great reputation in the town.
Despite the presence of air conditioning in the rooms, a number of guests travelling in mid summer found that this simply wasn't enough to cool the room down when the days, and more importantly nights, where exceptionally hot. As a result, some guests did have an odd day or two where their room was uncomfortably hot.
A decent number of guests felt that their room was a bit noisy. A busy nearby school, with the attendant morning school-run, and “paper thin” interior walls seemed to conspire against peaceful sleep.
