Positive Reviews

Conveniently located for touring Edinburgh by bus.

It's a bonus that Laird & Dog Inn is right near the Edinburgh city centre bus stop, as it makes seeing the area convenient, especially if you don't want to use a car, or don't have one. You can see a lot of the region, and still easily go back and forth between the inn as a base.

Attentive and personable staff welcome you.

The staff are as jolly as the atmosphere, happy and attentive to every guest, and showing a warm welcome to all. They are as attentive with the dining and pub service as they are with the rooms and housekeeping adding to the ambiance.

Cosy atmosphere between the rooms and the pub.

The rooms and the pub nicely complement each other, with a cosy and tranquil feeling created both. Your places to sleep, dine, and hang out with the locals for an ale all come together for a pleasant getaway.

Negative Reviews

Front facing rooms pick up a lot of noise.

If you're sensitive to noise, request that your room be towards the back of the inn. The front rooms pick up the bulk of the noise from the pub and from the street, so sleep will most likely be disrupted. It may help to have ear plugs, just in case you can't change rooms.

Inconsistent water pressure ruins showering.

The water pressure is poor, making it difficult to maintain the steady temperature of your preference. Keep this in mind, so you can have more patience with the inconsistency.

Small and cramped room space is disappointing.

The rooms seem larger and more spacious to many guests before they actually see them in person. Ensuite facilities cut more into the layout than expected, and even single travellers report some difficulty with the space.
