Positive Reviews

Amazing Location

How often do you get to sleep within spitting distance of a legendary castle's ramparts? What's more, staying here means you get to look out of the window and see Edinburgh Castle in all its glory every single day; a view which any chain hotel would charge a small fortune for Outstanding.

Wonderful communal areas

The main guest lounge area, with its piano, real fire place, pool table and myriad books, games and instruments scattered everywhere, has a really friendly, inclusive vibe about it For reasons that aren't fully understood, this affable vibe extends out to the communal kitchen and patio area as well If you like meeting people in laid-back environs then you'll be in your element here.

Some nice complementary extras thrown in

The hostel proffers free tea and coffee all throughout the day in the lounge and provides free hairdryers in the shared bathrooms Nice touches.

Negative Reviews

Beds are a little small

While some of the dorm rooms are pretty spacious, the same sadly cannot be said of the beds If you're six-feet tall or more then be warned: these beds haven't been built with your comfort in mind!

Walls are a bit thin

And yes, you guessed it, that means you can often hear people in various states of inebriation returning from their capital nights out during the we early hours of the morning Bring some ear plugs.

In-room Wi-Fi signal isn't so strong

While some rooms receive an okay signal, others aren't so lucky, forcing you to go out in the hallway to get reception In contrast, the Wi-Fi signal in the downstairs communal areas is tip-top.
